Abstract:
What are the Demands of School Psychological Work, and how do Danish School Psychologists see Themselves?

What are the Demands of School Psychological Work, and how do Danish School Psychologists see Themselves? sent in by Bjørn Glæsel, educational psychologist, certified, member of
the NEPES Steering Group.
In 2003 an investigation was made in Copenhagen – the capital of
Denmark – of the demands put to school psychologists, and how these
psychologists saw themselves as to the relevance of each demand, their
own competence, and their needs of further training. 50 school
psychologists participated in an anonymous questionnaire survey.
The investigation intended to serve several purposes. To find out how
the psychologists interpreted their job functions and to what degree
they adhered to the explicit and implicit expectations made by
colleagues and leaders about their priorities. Which parts of their
jobs they found especially important, and which ones they spent less
time and effort on. How they perceived their own competences versus
each part of their job. And finally, what they wanted to become better
at.
